Room boom will make Manchester the UK's second city for hotels

There will be more hotel rooms in Manchester than any other city outside London by 2016.

Within the next two-and-a-half years there will be some 15,000 hotel rooms in Manchester

That is the conclusion of a study by business advisers PwC, which finds 1,400 new rooms will be built here over the next two-and-a-half years.

The report also finds that the UK regions will see budget style hotels dominate the sector. In Manchester, Motel One and a new Travelodge are due to open, adding almost 500 new budget rooms.

Four-star or up-scale properties are also opening new rooms.
